Looks like an older whitewater kayak design.  I bet whitewater legends Chuck & Di could probably nail the make/model.

As far as refinishing it I would do the following:

1. Strip off the old paint (acetone, laquer thinner....wear a respirator!).
2. Perform any minor composite repairs, sand smooth and then buff until smoother than a baby's butt.  Buffing isn't really necessary on the inside...just the exterior.
3. Get a batch of UV Epoxy paint and paint the son of a gun!  Some cool decals or art would be a plus.  If you know someone with a paint shop that would be your best bet (toxic fumes, ozone depletion, etc. etc.).

Good luck & post pics when it's all done.

Cheers,

Joe

Hi- All items left at the checkpoint at the end of my shift (your light included) was left in a pile with instructions to pass on to the MR340 group when they came back to reclaim their flag and supplies. I hope it makes it way back to you.

For Sale - NorthShore Calypso II Sea Kayak - tandem kayak, 19'7" long, 25" wide, under stern rudder.

We recently completed the MR340 in this boat.   It has good initial and secondary stability but is still relatively fast and easy to paddle.  Comes with two spray skirts, two cockpit covers, and two Dagger Quintus paddles.
$1,500.  Boat is located in the Columbia/Jefferson City MO area, more pictures available on request.

Yeah, Bryan, I made the mistake of talking to "some of the boys" at surfski.info and basically got laughed at.  While watching Mocke, Eckstein, Rice and Cotter duke it out in the last kilometers of the race, I noticed that no one was bracing and never appeared to be affected by the waves of varying size, direction and intensity.  Amazing paddlers ... amazing race.  Makes LOZ look rather tame.

Here's a link to the video Bryan was talking about: http://vimeo.com/14520220

I am home with a cold...and watched a video on surfski.info on the 2010 recent world surfski championships and the San fransico race....wow can't believe I even talk of challenges on LOZ

sure these guys are in a different league....but the waves were amazing....and mocke took a different line and ended up next to an oil tanker fully underway...uh now those were some waves....these guys were not trying to just stay upright....they were laying it down

amazing

I am not worthy Shocked Smiley

I'm 5'10", 180#.  Can these handle my weight and height? Or are they for a small paddler? What's the asking price?

Any of the area west of Captain Ron's is considered to be the 'quiet' end of the LOZ.  The second day approaching the east end will be more challenging, or maybe not, considering it will be Sunday morning and no longer peak summer season.

With the nice cool breeze in the low 50s this week in St. Louis, a 2-3mm wet suit and neoprene boots might not be a bad idea.

This will not be a float trip.  With choppy waves and head winds, it will be a challenge.  Looking forward to it.  I'll end up bringing up the rear.
