Cool! I'll try to be at the first two, but I already signed up for another race on Sept 10th.

Boat permits are NOT required at any of the locations however, vehicle permits are required at both Hillsdale Lake State Park ($4.20 daily fee) and Smithville Lake ($6.00 daily fee).

If you really want to avoid the vehicle fee at Smithville, you can simply launch from one of the other lake access areas or near either of the Hwy W bridges and park on the shoulder of the road.  I do it all the time.

If the 9/10 date is for Smithville, the boat traffic will be less.  However, you route takes you by one of the busiest areas of the lake for pleasure boats, so I hope a 9 am start will be before they all get on the water.  Will make it a fun experience.

Good point Dan. I think the same is true for the Hillsdale area. Regarding Smithville on 9/10...that's post Labor Day and with the start at 9am we should avoid the congestion of the boat traffic.

At some point, I would like to have a 5-10 mile mid-afternoon race at one of the larger lakes when the wind and waves are up. I was at Hillsdale on Sunday and had a blast...winds were 15-20mph...that along with the boat traffic made the water really confused and pushy...it was just like a washing machine out there...probably the most fun I had on the water all year. If anyone is interested in that type of a race just let me know.

I am.

Keep in mind these are free races, so it's a bargain even if paying a few bucks for day pass to the park.

We had seven boats with ten paddlers out on the Bride 2 Bridge Edwardsville Kaw River course this past Tuesday. It was hot and the water was high and backed up due to the flooding on the Missouri...it was more like a lake than a river. The first Bridge 2 Bridge Series event is scheduled for July 16th at 9am. Hope to see you out there.

Tonight we had 4 boats and 7 paddlers on that Edwardsville Bridge to Bridge course. If this rain, which started as soon as we got loaded up, doesn’t change the Kaw all 3 races in the series will be on a lake! It was a very lakey river tonight. Look forward to seeing everyone Saturday.

Yes, the river is backed up, deep and just like a lake, so this will be 9.5 miles of pure flatwater paddling! Smiley

For those of you unfamiliar with the race location, drive in on I-435 (west end of town) and take the Woodend Road exit. Proceed west on Woodend Road to where it turns into S. 9th Street. The river access/park/boat ramp is straight ahead at that curve in the road. Here is a map http://mapq.st/ntXm74

SYOTR Saturday morning...Race starts at 9am.

A small but great crowd this morning for the 9.5 mile Kaw Bridge 2 Bridge. There were  9 boats that attended with 6 boats racing. Team Inertia had the momentum going today and didn't hold back.

1) Team Inertia (James Kaufman and Ryan Slebos) 1:23
2) Ron Ladzinski (Men's Solo) 1:26
3) Team Pappy and Son (Larry and Yancy Scroggins) 1:28
4) Dwan Green (Men's Solo) 1:40
5) Krista Patterson & Traci Martin (Women's Solo) tied 2:20

After the race there was ice cold water and Gatorade along with sandwiches courtesy of Sam West and the Legends "Chick-fil-A." James Kaufman (Columbia, MO) and Dwan Green (Wichita, KS) both received the forward stroke DVD courtesy of Epic Kayaks for the longest distances driven.

Hope to see you at the next event at Hillsdale on Aug 13th.

Just driving down the ramp as the bridge to bridge was leaving.
Talked with Heidi and found out about the Tuesday training sessions at edwardsville.
I thought she told me they were a weekly event but i don't recall the time.
Could someone list the time of those sessions?
Thanks

Ron,

just wanted to thank you for putting together a prodigious event.

It was really good to be able to visit with old friends and to become better acquainted with new friends.
